"butterfly borders"

"butterfly borders", mixed media, 40 x 23 diam.

a sculpture in a glass dome.

butterflies migrate, some over very long distances, and like most of nature they know nothing of borders. Its only humans that set up barbed wire, mine fields and border guards. And its only in the last few hundred years that we have done that, prior to that we would wander at will, and colonise where we could. Now we see thousands of people made refugees because of war, starvation and climate change, migrating looking for a secure future. Soon it could be us.
