mantis

1.7 x 1.2 x 2.4m , 1" birch ply, treated with Tung oil and ships varnish.

This giant preying mantis resides at the Crowhurst sculpture garden in East Sussex, along with a variety of other sculptures on free public display. It is the second, and largest, in a series of insects all made in a similar fashion of slotted together cut outs.

This particular piece is a bit of a cheat, it was based on a very small cardboard cut out by Muji, one of a little pack they do sometimes at Christmas time.
